Approach...

Street Action are currently supporting and funding projects in South Africa and Burundi.

Street Action supports child-focussed practical action. We believe in the principle of partnership, empowerment and local ownership. Our aims and objectives as an organisation are underpinned by our commitment to, and a sense of responsibility, to those we serve – street children, our partners and those who support our work.

Street Action reflects the development practice of active participation from the poorest and most excluded groups in programs concerning their plight. Through practical partnership and engagement with grassroots and community-based organisations, we offer solidarity, support and resources in the struggle to defend street children’s rights, meet their physical and social needs and challenge the systems that sustain the present crisis.

Street Action seeks to build partnerships with projects and organisations that are:

  • Gathering information on and explaining the issues of street children in light of the HIV/AIDS crisis within South Africa .

  • Developing holistic and informed strategies to address the changing context of street children in South Africa.

  • Implementing and supporting strategic and pioneering grass-roots programs related to street children.

  • Empowering street children and former street children to think philosophically, reflectively, politically and theologically about their situation and to develop consciousness as to the importance of ‘street children’ as a social justice issue.
